FAQs

1. What are the alcoves made out of?
The alcoves are cast stone made out of limestone from the world famous quarries of Comblanchien, Burgundy.

2.Why choose stone over wood.
Wood does not uphold European standards for bottle aging because it does not possess the thermal transferring value of stone. The Dalst limestone system offers an inert thermal mass that absorbs and then reradiates the ambient room temperature of the cellar down through the bottles, creating a uniform and undisturbed “cold chamber” for wine to age. The sructural stability of the stone reduces harmful vibrations and allows the wine bottles to settle and mature to their fullest potential, creating nuance and complexity over the years.

3. How does the price compare to wood?
The price is less then custom milled, premium wood storage and because the alcoves allow for reverse racking (the alternate stacking of bottles for maximum capacity and protection) you get considerably more wine storage per dollar and per sq.ft. of cellar space.

4. Can I install this system myself?
With our instructional video and a basic knowledge of masonry and construction you can install the product. Remember this is a stone product and it is heavy so be sure to have help. We do however suggest contracting a local mason, builder, or the Dalst installation team for best results.

5. Does Dalst offer cellar design?
Yes, our designers will provide you with design options based on your cellar dimensions and storage needs.

6. Are there other colors then the natural limestone?
Once the alcoves are built they can be stained or a faux finish can be applied to match your design requirements.

7. How do I get the process started?
